247Sports

Ro’Derrick Hoskins is a 6’2″ 216 lbs linebacker out of Orlando, FL. Hoskins was an Under Armor All-American in high school and played in the Offense-Defense All-American Bowl in Houston, TX. He is an excellent athlete that played both linebacker and receiver in high school. Hoskins was rated at least a 3* by all the major recruiting outlets with ESPN having him the highest. According to ESPN Recruiting, Hoskins is a 4* recruit and the 14th best player at his position in the nation for the the 2013 class. As FSU likes to use their young linebackers a lot in special teams, it would not be surprising to see Hoskins used from the start in Tallahassee. Much more than a reserve role at linebacker, however, should not be expected.

Weegie Thompson

State Archives of Florida, Florida Memory, Deborah Thompson

Weegie Thompson was a 6’6″ 218 lbs wide receiver out of Midlothian, VA. Thompson was a 3 year letterman for the Noles from 1979-1983. He spent his first two years in Tallahassee as a reserve quarterback without lettering. In 1981, however, he made the switch to wide receiver. Thompson had very little production in ’81 and ’82 with just 10 catches for 209 yards during those two seasons, though he did have a 48 yard touchdown grab against South Carolina in 1982. As a redshirt senior, however, Thompson saw his impact on the Noles offense increase dramatically. In 1983, he tied for the most receptions on the season with 31, and was second on team with 502 yards and 3 touchdowns. Thompson had his only 100 yard receiving game in the season opener against East Carolina, though he had an impressive 6 catch 96 yard game a few weeks later against Auburn. Thompson is one of the rare players that went on to have a better NFL career than college. He was drafted in the 4th Round of the 1984 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers. Thompson would go on to have a nice 6 year career with the Steelers playing in 92 game with 25 starts. He finished his NFL career with 79 catches for 1,377 yards and 11 touchdowns.
