1 Day Until Seminole Football

#1 – Tyler Hunter

(Warchant)

Tyler Hunter is a 5’11” 198 lbs defensive back out of Valdosta, GA.  Hunter is entering his Junior season and is at the top of the depth chart getting the start at strong safety.  Hunter really came on last season as a versatile player who could line up at the corner or safety position.  He got the majority of his snaps as a nickel back finishing the season with 27 tackles and tied for the team lead with 3 interceptions.  Hunter also has ability as a punt returner and had a 75 yard punt return for a touchdown last season.  He role as punt returner was short lived, however, as he struggled fielding a couple punts.  Hunter’s versatility will be key this season as he and Karlos Williams will most likely line up in numerous positions on the defensive side of the ball.  He plays very physical for his size, but has good speed and instincts as well.

#1 – Kelvin Benjamin

( Stephen M. Dowell/Orlando Sentinel)

Kelvin Benjamin is a 6’5″ 234 lbs wide receiver out of Belle Glade, FL.  Benjamin has all the physical ability and attributes you would want in a wide receiver, but lacked something last season despite putting up decent numbers.  He finished the season with 30 catches for 495 yards and 4 touchdowns.  For a receiver of his size, however, he struggled to catch the ball at it’s highest point often misplaying the ball, mistiming his jump, or not jumping at all.  Players and coaches have said he has shown a different demeanor this offseason and has committed himself to getting better.  Nole fans can only hope this is true, as the sky is the limit with Benjamin from a physical standpoint.  He will certainly need to have a productive season as one of only 3 receivers that return with significant playing experience from last season.  Benjamin will be the starting Z receiver in the Seminole offense.
Dave Cappelen

Dave Cappelen was a 5’9″ 140 lbs placekicker out of Vero Beach, FL.  Cappelen was a 4 year starter for the Noles from 1976-79.  Cappelen was able to break the Seminole scoring record in the Florida game of his junior season with a whole other season remaining.  He added 70 points as a senior hitting 14 of 22 field goal attempts and converting 28 of 29 extra points.  For his career, Cappelen finished 110 out of 119 on extra points and 43 of 71 on field goals and 239 points.  Cappelen is 9th in career scoring in FSU history and was inducted into the FSU Hall of Fame in 1995.
