79 Days Until Seminole Football

#79 – Todd Williams

Offensive Tackle – 6’6″ 325 lbs – 1998-2002

The following was written by The Territory member Mahaanole after Todd Williams passed away earlier this year:

Todd Williams was one of my heroes. Was? It is saddening to even say “was” while referring to Todd. He will always be one of my favorite Seminoles. I am proud to wear the same colors that Todd wore on the field. I cannot believe he is no more.

Todd died all too young and all too tragically – alone in a motel room with an unknown affliction for which he did not seek treatment. Some may consider Todd’s entire life a tragedy. To me, it was anything but a tragedy. It was a celebration. It was a tonic. It was an inspiration. It was a tale of talent, drive, intelligence and the influence of kind people coming together to beat the odds. From homelessness to petty crime to anger issues to a second chance followed by hard work and discipline to obtain an FSU degree and a career in the NFL, Todd Williams was the personification of a dream-come-true. Always smiling, never bitter, Todd did what everyone knew he would after his NFL career ended – give back. As a teacher and mentor at the Manatee Y Technological HS, Todd showed kids that they can all dream, work hard, stay focused and achieve! Alas, it was not to last long. Todd smiled his way into the sunset leaving behind a legacy of heroism and smiles and dreams.

If you would like to honor the memory of this wonderful man, here are two ways:

(1) A tax deductible contribution can be made to the FSU Foundation, “Todd Williams Continuing Scholarship (F06901)” and mailed to P.O. Box 831, Bradenton, FL 34206-0831. For more information, contact Brett Pollock at 941-531-4386.

(2) A (presumably) tax deductible contribution can be made to the Manatee YMCA’s “Todd Williams Scholarship” that will help underprivileged kids attend Manatee Y Technological High School. Please indicate on your check that your contribution be used for this scholarship fund. Send contributions to: Manatee YMCA, 2520 Manatee Avenue West #210, Bradenton, FL 34205. Contact: 941-798-9622 (Bradenton Y admin office) or 941-746-7470 (Manatee Y Technological HS direct line).

Thank you all for considering a contribution. I am sending mine to the Manatee YMCA to help kids go to their HS.
