53 Days Until Seminole Football

No Current #53

#53 – Paul Piurowski

Linebacker – 6’3″ 222 lbs – 1977-1980

Paul Piurowski was a part of some of the great Seminole teams in history in 1979 and 1980.  The ’79 team was the first in FSU history to go undefeated in the regular season and was just an Orange Bowl victory over Oklahoma away from entering their name among National Championship contenders. Then in 1980, FSU again entered the Orange Bowl against Oklahoma ranked #2 in the nation with a shot at a National Championship but came up one point short and finished in the Top 5 for the first time in program history.  Piurowski was a big part of that as a linebacker for the Seminoles who finished 2nd on the team in tackles both of those years.  In 1980 he was an Honorable Mention All-American and played a big part in one of the Florida State’s greatest victories.  At Nebraska in 1980 FSU was an underdog to the #3 ranked Cornhuskers.  In the waning moments with Nebraska knocking on the door of the goalline with just seconds remaining, Piurowski burst through the line and forced a fumble that was recovered by the Noles to preserve the victory.  Piurowski was elected to the FSU Hall of Fame in 1989 and had a son, Caz, play tight end with the Noles in the late 2000s.
