#28 – Warrick Dunn

Running Back – 5’9″ 185 lbs – 1993-1996

One of the greatest Seminoles in FSU history both on and off the field, Warrick Dunn was a 5’9″ 185 lbs running back from Baton Rouge, LA. On the field he possessed the quickness, speed, explosiveness, and balance that made him one of the most elusive backs in football history. He made an immediate impact his freshman year and spent the next 3 years carving out his space in history. 4 of the Top 20 single game rushing yards, #1, #3, #5 single season yards, #1 career yards, #2 career TDs. Highest yards per carry in a season and a career at a staggering 7.5 and 6.9 respectively.  Twenty One 100-yard games in his career, more than any other. Just for fun, he’s also #9 on the all time receptions list with 132 and #16 on the career receptions per game with 2.93. He’s also #20 on the all-time receiving TDs. Amazingly, Dunn was only named to one first team All-American team in his career at FSU. Dunn was a 2002 inductee into the FSU Hall of Fame. After FSU, Dunn spent 12 seasons in the NFL making 3 pro-bowl appearances and rushing for 1,000 yards 5 times. He finished with 10,967 yards rushing in the NFL.

Off the field, he has been recognized as one of the greats as well. Named “Man of the Year” in the NFL on 3 different occasions, he has founded several charities, the most notable being his Homes for the Holidays a program that rewards single-parent families for reaching first-time homeownership. HFTH recipient families are chosen through a partnership with Habitat for Humanity affiliates and WDC with complete home furnishings and down-payment assistance. As of July 2012, HFTH has assisted over 115 single parents and over 300 dependents in Atlanta, Baton Rouge, Tampa and Tallahassee. By providing families with a positive home environment, WDC believes that children can thrive educationally, socially and economically.
