#25 – Fred Biletnikoff

Split End – 6’1″ 186 lbs – 1962-1964

Fred Biletnikoff was a 6’1″ 186 lbs split end out of Erie, PA. Elected into the FSU Hall of Fame in 1977, Biletnikoff was Florida State’s first ever Consensus All-American in 1964. That year he ranked 4th in the nation in receptions (57) and TDs (11), as well as 987 yards. In addition to those numbers, he had a record setting performance in the Gator Bowl that year with a 192 yard 4 TD game. He brought national attention on FSU and the sophisticated passing game of Bill Peterson. He was drafted in the 3rd Round by the Detroit Lions of the NFL and the 2nd round of the AFL draft by the Oakland Raiders. He went with the Raiders and had one of the most successful careers for a WR in the history of the NFL. Playing 14 years, he amassed 8,974 yards and 77 TDs, was named to 6 Pro-Bowls, played in two Super Bowls being named MVP of one, and elected into the NFL Hall of Fame in 1988.

In 1994, the Tallahassee Quarterback Club established the Biletnikoff Award, given to the best college football wide receiver. It has become one of the most prestigious individual awards given for a college football athlete.
