8 Days Until Seminole Football

#8 – Jalen Ramsey

Defensive Back – 6’1″ 204 lbs – Sophomore

Jalen Ramsey was a late addition to the 2013 Florida State recruiting class, but made a very early impact once he got on campus.  As a true freshman he started all 14 games for the Noles including becoming the first true freshman to start the opening game at cornerback since Deion Sanders in 1985.  Ramsey made an instant impact, too, grabbing an interception in the season opener against Pitt.  He showed his versatility after Tyler Hunter’s injury moving from cornerback to safety and making an impact there.  He led the team with 27 tackles on pass plays and finished 7th overall with 49 total tackles.  For his efforts, Ramsey was named to multiple First Team Freshman All-American teams.  In 2014, Ramsey will most likely take over the hybrid corner/nickel role vacated by Lamarcus Joyner.  He helps lead one of the top secondaries in the nation heading into the season.

#8 – Kermit Whitfield

Wide Receiver – 5’7″ 183 lbs – Sophomore

Kermit Whitfield is quite simply one of the most explosive and fastest football players in the nation.   He led the nation in kick return average with 36.4 yards per return and returned two kicks for touchdowns, none more memorable than the 100 yard return in the BCS National Championship against Auburn.  He should factor more into the offense this year after getting just 8 touches on the offense side of the ball.  When given the chance, he made the most of those touches averaging 36.7 yards per rush with 2 touchdowns on just 3 carries all season and making 5 catches for 89 yards.  With his lack of size, Whitfield probably won’t be running some traditional routes, but the Noles will look to get the ball to him in space with bubble screens, end arounds, etc.
