The Florida State bullpen fell apart again on Sunday as the Noles lost 7-5 on a ninth inning homerun hit by pinch-hitter Stephen Ghutzman off of Eric Roman. Tied at five heading into the bottom of the ninth, Daniel Hodges gave up a single to Jamie D'Antona before being relieved by Roman who gave up the game-winning homerun.

FSU took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Bryan Zech reached on an error and advanced to third on a single by Nick Rogers. Zech then scored on a groundout by Ryan Barthelemy, and Rogers came in on a passed ball.

The Seminoles extended their lead in the third frame when Zech singled to left, advanced to third on a single by Barthelemy, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Tony McQuade. An inning later, Wake Forest got on the board in the same way when D'Antona walked, advanced to third on a single by Jeff Ruzieki, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Ryder Mathias that cut the lead to 3-1.

The Demon Deacons would then tie it up in the next inning when Adam Bourassa singled, stole second, and advanced to third on a throwing error by Tony Richie, before scoring on a sacrifice fly hit by Nick Blue. Ryan Johnson then blasted a solo homerun to right that even the score at three.

The Noles came right back in the sixth when Richie Smith singled up the middle, stole second, and scored on an RBI-single by Zech. After Rogers and Barthelemy both drew walks to load the bases, McQuade's second sacrifice fly of the game brought home Zech that gave the Seminoles a 5-3 lead.

Marc LaMacchia came into relieve Varnes in the bottom of the sixth and kept the Deacs in check until the bottom of the eighth when he walked Ben Ingold. Kevin Lynch came in and walked Mathias before a fielder's choice recorded the second out of the inning. Bourassa then nailed a double to left that brought home two runners and tied the game at 5-5. Hodges was called upon and got the final out of the inning to limit the damage.

FSU fell to 29-10 and 3-6 in the ACC while the Demon Deacons improved to 22-5 and 6-2 in conference. The Seminoles return home to host the Miami Hurricanes next weekend for a three-game series at Howser Stadium. Florida State isn't the only team struggling right now, as the Canes are unranked and lost two out of three games to Elon this weekend.
