Dear Friends, Part II

November 01, 2011 06:22AM
continuation of the chemosabe thread that reached the maximum number of posts and then autolocked.

I am writing this to answer a lot of uestions regarding my post the other day. I have had mild symptoms of an ulcer for the past several weeks, and they did resolve with medication. Nevertheless, three days ago I convinced a friend to perform an upper endoscopy on me anyway. Unfortunately we found a large tumor in my distal esophagus. The final pathology is still pending but there can be little doubt as to what this can be.

As with most esophageal cancers, the disease is already advanced by the time there are any symptoms at all. A subsequent CT and PET scan have shown this to be the case in my situation as well. My prognosis is quite poor. I have spent the past few days shutting down my medical practice and getting my affairs in order. After much thought and prayer, as well as consultations with my contacts throughout the world, I have decided to undergo an aggressive and experimental therapy at the Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa. Even with this treatment the odds are heavily against me, and the aggressiveness of it means that, even should I survive, I will never be the same again.

I would ask that you keep me and my family in your prayers. God Bless.
