10 Days Until Seminole Football

#10 – Sean Maguire

(Melina Vastola-USA TODAY Sports)

Sean Maguire is a 6’3″ 215 lbs quarterback out of Sparta, NJ.   Maguire is entering his redshirt freshman year with the Seminoles.  Maguire ranked as one of the Top 20 quarterbacks nationally out of high school and immediately impressed Jimbo Fisher.  He is a natural drop back pro-style quarterback but also possesses above average athleticism that allows him to use his legs as well.  Though all indications are the starting quarterback job is a two horse race between Jameis Winston and Jacob Coker, Fisher has repeatedly mentioned Sean Maguire and warned not to count him out.

#10 – E.J. Levenberry

(247Sports)

E.J. Levenberry is a 6’4″ 234 lbs linebacker out of Woodbridge, VA.  Levenberry is entering his freshman year in Tallahassee with hopes of contributing right away.  If not for the star status and roller coaster off season of fellow freshman Matthew Thomas, Levenberry would probably be the most talked about of the incoming freshman linebackers.  A consensus 4 star recruit, he was rated as one of the Top 12 linebackers in the nation coming out of high school.  Levenberry has a great combination of size and speed and will be hard to keep off the field this season.  It’s hard to forecast how many snaps he’ll get on the defensive side of the ball, but it would not be surprising to see him contributing immediately on special teams.

Derrick Brooks

Derrick Brooks was a 6’1″ 226 lbs linebacker out of Pensacola, FL.  Brooks was a 3 year starter and 4 year letterman for Florida State from 1991-94.  It could be argued that Brooks revolutionized the linebacker position in the game of football.  His combination of speed, size, and strength were unprecedented at the position.  Brooks was the rare player that could run in coverage with running backs and some wide receivers on one play and crush a fullback on the next.  His sophomore season in 1992 he exploded on the scene with 98 tackles and was named 1st Team Sophomore All-American by Football News.  He followed that up with back to back NCAA Consensus All-American Honors in ’93 and ’94.  In the ’93 season particularly he was simply amazing outscoring the first five opponents of the season singlehandedly 18-14 with 2 interceptions returned for a touchdown and fumble return for a touchdown.   Brooks was elected into the FSU Hall of Fame in 2000 and his jersey was retired in 2010 (though his number is still available to be worn).  In addition to his prowess on the field, Brooks was a impressive in the classroom earning Academic All-American honors and winning an NCAA post-graduate scholarship.

In 1995, Brooks was drafted in the 1st Round of the NFL Draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.  He enjoyed a sure-fire Hall of Fame 14 year career with the Bucs as an 11-time Pro-Bowler and 2002 Defensive Player of the Year.  He amassed over 1700 tackles in his career and added 25 interceptions while scoring 7 defensive touchdowns.
